How to Adjust to a Sudden Temperature Change When Travelling

Travelling is one of the many joys in life. Seeing the world, the natural beauty of different landscapes, different cities and architecture, and experiencing the many different cultures our world has to offer can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a life. But when travelling, major temperature changes are common. Going between two drastically different climates can be very strenuous and difficult to adjust to. But don’t worry, here are a few tips to help you adjust to sudden temperature changes when travelling.

Pack the Right Clothes

Your first line of defense against the weather is your clothing. Packing the right clothing for the climate that you are travelling to is the best and easiest thing you can do to help transition between climates while travelling. Do your research, and monitor the weather forecast for your travel destination as you are deciding what to bring and what to leave at home. Having a general idea of the weather in a particular location at a particular time of year is a great place to start, but weather fluctuates frequently, and knowing exactly what the predicted weather is for your travel destination during your visit is the best way to know what to pack. Make sure that you have a good variety of options, and pack for the weather of your destination.

Be Mindful of Your Health

Rapid temperature changes can have major impacts on your body. And being sick while travelling is a major buzzkill. But even having minor health irritants while travelling can take the focus off of your travels and experience and onto your discomfort. Make sure you are aware of your particular responses to temperature change and pack accordingly. Some people have flare-ups of certain skin conditions when going to hot or cold weather areas. If this sounds like you, make sure to pack ointments, creams and lotions to help keep your skin healthy while you are on the go.

Be Aware of Climate-Related illness

Sometimes, the climate can cause health issues and illness, and you should be aware of the signs and symptoms of these issues when travelling. Travelling to high altitude locations can cause you to develop headaches, fatigue, dizziness, and an upset stomach. With extreme heat, you may experience rash, fainting, headaches, and fatigue as well as nausea, sweating, and loss of coordination. Be particularly aware of heat exhaustion and heat stroke as these are serious medical conditions that can have serious consequences. In cold climates, be aware of frostbite and hypothermia, intense shivering, goosebumps, difficulty using your hands, and false sense of warmth can indicate a developing cold illness.

Everyone loves travelling, it offers treasures that few other experiences offer.  But climates vary widely across the globe and even across certain countries. Being prepared for the weather changes is a smart idea. If you follow these pieces of advice, then you should be in a good position to handle whatever the weather throws at you.
