Sara Nelson Reelected Another Four Years

Flight Attendants had a rough two years. They face more conflict in the sky after being the front lines against unruly passengers during the mask mandate debate. American Airlines faces shorter turnaround times on their overseas trips, and Alaska faces a strike. Fortunately for them, the most powerful flight attendant in the world, Sara Nelson, is reelected to office.

Sara Nelson Reelcered to another Four Years

Perhaps the most powerful flight attendant globally, Sara Nelson has been reelected as president of the Association of Flight Attendants. She won the 49th AFA-CWA election for another four-year term.

The Association of Flight Attendants is the most extensive cabin crew union globally. It currently represents approximately 50,000 crew members across nearly 20 airlines. Almost half of the union comprises more than 20,000 flight attendants at United Airlines. The smallest group in the organization are the newest members of Norse, a low-cost transatlantic airline. AFA represents flight attendants at Alaska, Frontier, and Spirit Airlines

Nelson Targets Delta Airlines

Under Nelson, the union is working to convince Delta Airlines flight attendants to join for the first time. Convincing Delta to unionize would solidify her place in history after several failed attempts by others. She is a 25-year veteran of United and has been in the union since 1996.

After accepting her victory, Nelson addressed the members. “Some may call these times desperate. We can recognize them as a call to action. Nelson continued, “In the worst of times, working people have risen up to achieve our greatest gains. Stronger together, better together is not just our slogan; it is our calling.”

Flight attendants have a strong leader in their corner while the entire travel industry fights to return to normal. With pilots going on strike and airlines facing cancelations, Nelson leads the charge to keep the industry afloat.
