Carriers announce new routes throughout July and August
For flyers trying to find a new destination: airliness want to get you there faster and more efficient. Several American and international carriers have announced a number of new routes in July and August, offering even more ways to see the world. Here is a summary of the new routes announced by multiple carriers.
American Airlines
After much anticipation, American Airlines will begin flying between Los Angeles and Beijing this fall. FlightGlobal reports the carrier will begin daily service between the two cities starting on November 5.
The report states American will fly the Boeing 777-200 on the flight, based on a slot exchange with China Southern Airlines. In exchange for the gate space, American will make a $200 million investment in the carrier. With the move, American will be the third largest U.S.-based carrier with a presence in the nation, while codesharing the flight with China Southern.
British Airways
European travelers who want to see the north in wintertime splendor will now have more opportunities to travel with British Airways. The carrier announced a number of wintertime flights to capitals via London City Airport (LCY).
From the smaller airport, flyers can access service to three major cities: Paris, France via Paris Orly Airport (ORY), Rekjavick, Iceland and Prague, Czech Republic. The new routes will begin in October.
For those who want more opportunities to travel to Britain, the flag carrier will also launch more American routes in 2018. Philly.com reports the air line will add service via Philadelphia in April 2018, while new service to Nashville will begin one month later.
Delta Air Lines
As part of strengthening their position in Seattle, Delta Air Lines will launch new flights from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport this fall. Starting October 1, the carrier will begin new service to Austin, Texas and Medford, Oregon. Both destinations will feature daily service to and from the Pacific Northwest destination.
To match demand from travelers, Delta will also begin flying between Los Angeles and Mexico City starting December 1. The move will be a complimentary flight to SkyTeam partner Aeromexico, offering flyers more opportunities to travel to Mexico.
Finally, the Atlanta-based carrier is not being shy showing off their newest addition to their fleet: the Airbus A350 XWB. Starting October 30, the next-generation widebody will debut on a flight between Detroit and Tokyo, before flying between the Michigan hub to Seoul through December and Beijing in January. The aircraft will ultimately operate Atlanta and Seoul starting in March 2018.
Norwegian Air
Low-cost flyers now have additional access to London and back, after Norwegian Air launched new service across the pond. On August 10, the carrier added a second flight between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW).
The flight arrives in New York at 9 a.m. Eastern Time, allowing flyers to travel to New York for one day, before returning on a late-night flight at 11 p.m. Economy flights for the one-day flight start at $337, before fees.
United Airlines
This winter season, United Airlines is helping flyers get to both warm and cold destinations. Where travelers want to go is completely up to their tastes.
Starting December 23, United will begin service to Mazatlan, Mexico from Chicago and Houston, becoming United’s 24th destination in the nation. In Chicago, the service will only run on Saturdays, while in Houston, the carrier will offer service to the Mexican destination four times per week, starting December 21: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturdays and Sundays. The service runs through April 2018.
For those who prefer a colder destination, United will also offer service to some of the most popular ski destinations across the Rockies. Out of all their domestic hubs and New York’s LaGuardia International Airport (LGA), the Chicago-based carrier will offer direct flights to the most in-demand ski destinations, including Aspen, Bozeman, Jackson Hole, Telluride and Sun Valley.
