A Delta Air Lines passenger was removed from his flight after refusing to swap seats and recording an argument with the flight crew. The incident happened on September 9 aboard Flight 983 from Bogota, Colombia, to Atlanta.
Santiago Daza claimed that a woman wanted to sit beside her husband and that he was asked to swap seats with her. Daza told Caracol Radio that he refused to switch seats with the woman after noticing that her seat was a bit smaller and had less room than his.
After Daza refused to switch seats, another crew member approached him and asked for his name. Daza then told the employee that he would record the conversation using his Meta Glasses.
Crew members asked Daza to stop recording, and he was eventually ordered to leave the aircraft. Delta told Minuto60 that Daza was removed from the flight for failing to follow the crew’s instructions.
In a video posted on Daza’s Instagram account, a crew member can be heard asking him to remove his glasses. Another can be heard saying “He’s recording me right now.” The employee also asks “Can you disconnect that?”
Daza then asked if he could talk to the captain. However, he was told that the captain had already decided to remove him from the flight.
Daza pointed out that the captain had not spoken to him. A woman sitting near him also defended Daza, according to Noticias Caracol.
$150 After Being Removed from the Flight?
After he was removed from the flight, a Delta employee helped Daza book another flight free of charge. However, he said that he had already lost his original itinerary and incurred additional expenses because of the incident.
He claimed that he was offered $150 but couldn’t accept it. In an interview with Caracol Radio, he explained that he was not trying to get rich from the situation. However, he wanted an explanation of why he was removed from the flight after refusing to swap seats. He was hoping to receive an apology and compensation from the airline.
