Allegiant Air Orders Six More Boeing 737 MAX Jets Worth $720 Million

Allegiant is expanding its fleet with six additional Boeing 737 MAX jets scheduled for delivery in 2028. The airline is exercising its first purchase options under a 2021 agreement with Boeing.

Allegiant announced the order on October 23, 2026. The six aircraft carry a combined list price exceeding $720 million, before discounts and other adjustments. However, Allegiant did not disclose the negotiated purchase price.

The latest order brings Allegiant’s orders under the agreement to 56 aircraft. As of October 23, 22 of the 56 aircraft had already been delivered. The airline retains options for another 74 aircraft.

Replacing Retiring Aircraft With More Fuel-Efficient Jets

This marks another step in Allegiant’s fleet expansion after years of relying on used aircraft. The original agreement covered the smaller 737-7 and the higher-capacity 737-8-200, along with options to purchase 50 additional aircraft.

Allegiant said the new jets would replace retiring aircraft with more fuel-efficient models, reducing overall fuel consumption.

Delayed Delivery

Allegiant initially expected to receive its first MAX jet in 2023, with the remaining aircraft arriving by the end of 2025. However, the deliveries fell behind schedule. The first 737-8-200 was delivered in September 2024.

In November 2024, the airline amended its Boeing agreement to reduce deliveries scheduled for 2024 and 2025 and extend the original order’s delivery timeline through the end of 2027. Allegiant said that the revised deal also provided compensation and other concessions to account for the delivery delays.

The first MAX jet became available for passengers in October 2024. In an investor presentation that month, Allegiant estimated that the delays were costing the airline approximately $30 million annually and said it was seeking compensation from Boeing.

When the deal was first announced, Allegiant said the MAX jets would provide about 20% better fuel efficiency than its older Airbus A320-family aircraft while accommodating more passengers. The airline also reached a maintenance agreement with CFM International for the new aircraft’s LEAP-1B engines.

Following the latest purchase, Allegiant still has 34 aircraft awaiting delivery under its existing Boeing deal.
