Local police have launched an investigation into a crash between two trains near the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru that left several tourists injured Tuesday.
According to Reuters.com, Urubamba police chief Eulogio Farfan said the crash occurred between Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu in southern Peru, leaving at least 13 people injured, with some reports claiming as many as 23 people were injured.
Many of the victims injured in the accident were foreign tourists.

Authorities revealed a train operated by IncaRail was struck in the rear by a train operated by PeruRail. Officials from IncaRail revealed one person was injured on their train, but the rest continued on to Machu Picchu.
As for the PeruRail train, operators activated the emergency protocols and evacuated the injured by ambulance to local medical facilities. PeruRail owners Belmond Ltd and Ferrocarril Transandino S.A. announced it has launched an investigation of its own regarding the crash.
