Alaska Air Passengers Who Show a Little Holiday Cheer Will Get Priority Boarding

This year, passengers who participate in “National Ugly Sweater Day” on December 15 will earn envy rather than fashion advice when Alaska Air will give festive flyers a big holiday perk.

airlines-mileage-plan-442/” target=”_blank”>Alaska Air has a treat in store for passengers on the “nice” list. Flyers who put vanity aside on December 15 to participate in National Ugly Sweater Day will get an early present from Santa in the form of priority boarding on all Alaska Air, Horizon Air and Virgin America flights that day.

“Travel during the holidays can be stressful for guests, especially those who do not travel often,” Alaska Airlines spokesperson Natalie Bowman said of the unique one-day promotion. “This fun promotion not only allows guests to board early on that day, but gives people another opportunity to dust off that ugly holiday sweater hanging in the back of their closet.”

Those without plans to travel on December 15 can still participate in the holiday silliness. Airline employees and passengers clad in their most festive and gaudiest finery are encouraged to post photographs on social media with the hashtags #UglySweaterDay and #MostWestCoast and Alaska will keep those of us playing along at home up-to-date on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on the very latest mile-high ugly sweater sightings across the route map.

The upcoming day of fun fashion faux pas is more than just a bit of holiday season merriment. Air travelers who don’t already have an ugly Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer sweater in mothballs at home are urged to purchase an appropriately ugly holiday sweater from a number of vendors donating a portion of proceeds to charity or to host an ugly sweater fundraiser or simply to make a donation to the Save the Children “Make the World Better with a Sweater” Campaign.
