There’s no denying how blockchain is now popular worldwide. Some countries are even using cryptocurrencies as a replacement for fiat. In the US, 21.2 million American adults now own a cryptocurrency. German travel booking website GetYourGuide is now available in the US. This travel site announced that they are now accepting Dogecoin for payment.
According to GetYourGuide, they were able to book 45 million-plus tours in 170 countries. Among these destinations include Hawaii, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York to name a few US destinations. Aside from dogecoin, GetYourGuide also processes payments via BitPay, PayPal, Google Pay, and other credit and debit cards.
Beyond Excited
GetYourGuide co-founder and CEO Johannes Reck said that they are “beyond excited” about entering the US. It can be considered good timing since domestic travel in the US is up once again. Flight volume is now back nearing 2019’s level. Reck said that “The challenges many faced over the past year sent people into a virtual spiral—Netflix bingeing, increased social app use and renewed interest in stock and cryptocurrency trading, such as dogecoin”.
Dogecoin’s Popularity in 2020
What began as a joke cryptocurrency now made its way to the top of the crypto food chain. It is now among the top ten cryptocurrencies in the world. One of the things that made Dogecoin bullish in recent months is the constant promotion from Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Its mining profitability even reached a six-year high.
In April, Bobby Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee started accepting dogecoin along with other popular cryptocurrencies via BitPay.
GetYourGuide chief marketing officer Emil Martinsek mentioned that their US destinations can attract all types of travelers. Some of their popular destinations include Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Tampa, Florida, and Washington.
The website is offering different types of activities ranging from walking tours and regional culinary tours. There are also the “skip-the-line” tickets if you wish to visit popular attractions and even bucket-list experiences.
