Delta, KABOOM! unveil kid-designed playground with local partners in Miami

Delta and KABOOM! have partnered with local organizations in Miami to unveil a kid-designed, community-built playground as part of the airline’s commitment to giving back where its employees live, work and serve. The new playground was a collaborative effort by community members, including kids, who presented creative ideas for their dream playground during a design day in February.

Playing is the essence of childhood and is a critical developmental need that provides countless physical, social and mental health benefits. However, far too many children, especially in communities of color, do not have a place to play near where they live or learn. KABOOM! is working to end playspace inequity, ensuring that kids have access to quality places to play, something that should be part of every child’s life. The new playground at Las Sevillas, designed with the neighborhood’s unique needs and aspirations in mind, brings Miami one step closer toward ending playspace inequity and ensuring that every kid has the opportunity to experience the joys and benefits of play.

This project is part of Delta’s ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where their employees live, work and serve by supporting education and play equity.  The playground – built by the community and Delta people from around the globe as a part of the airline’s Global Sales Conference – is the 36th playground Delta has built in partnership with KABOOM!

“Delta colleagues from throughout the world, including our partners at LATAM Airlines, are proud to have spent this day serving the South Florida community and creating a fun playspace for the children of Las Sevillas,” said Luciano Macagno, Delta managing director of Latin America, the Caribbean, and South Florida. “We’re also grateful to our partners at BCD Travel for their support in this important project. We look forward to continuing our support of the South Florida and Miami communities.”

Delta has been serving Miami for more than 70 years, and its people give back through a variety of organizations in the Miami community, including Kaboom!, Junior Achievement of Greater Miami, and the MANG Foundation.

“Playgrounds are an iconic part of childhood. They’re not only where kids collect some of their best memories, but also where crucial skills are developed that nurture their physical, mental, and emotional well-being,” said Lysa Ratliff, CEO of KABOOM!. “KABOOM! is thrilled to work with our partners to bring to life the new playspace at Las Sevillas and ensure that kids in Fontainbleau Lakes have a place designed just for them, where they can play, learn and unlock their greatest potential.”

Fountainebleau Lakes resident Victor Villaverde shared how the park will make a difference for the children in the community. “It changes everything. We needed to take them to other parks, like 20 minutes from here, sometimes walking long distances or sometimes also taking the car to get there. So having this now in the community is going to change everything, because now we have that fun part in our green space that everybody can enjoy, as well.”
