Delta’s Short-Haul Passengers Are Getting Roomier Cabins

Bombardier is making some big upgrades that will mean more space for passengers. The manufacturer is overhauling the CRJ900 jet that is popularly used for short-haul flights.

The list of upgrades that travelers going on short sprints can look forward to includes roomier cabins and smartly configured overhead storage bins. The upgrades are all part of a new cabin design from Bombardier called Atmosphere. The design will make its real-life debut on Delta Connection flights later in 2018.

The Seats

Passengers who board flights operated by Delta Connection in the future will see some familiar elements. The seats inside the new CRJ900 look essentially the same as the jet’s old seats. However, the cabin inside this model now feels much more spacious.

The new CRJ900 features 12 seats in first class. All of these seats feature power outlets and USB ports. That’s good news for business travelers who are always struggling to find ways to keep their laptops charged while traveling.

The jet features a total of 20 seats in Delta Comfort+. Passengers in these seats will enjoy three inches of extra legroom. The jet’s economy cabin has gone from offering 44 seats to offering 38 seats. That means that every seat gets a little bit more room. In addition, the economy cabin has been slightly expanded to be roomier in general.

The Vibe

In addition to larger overhead bins, the cabin also comes with some other exciting upgrades. Bombardier has upgraded the lighting inside the cabin to create a much more welcoming vibe. In addition, the cabin has modern windows that make it easier to enjoy some light and take in some great views. All seats on the jet feature tray tables that are large enough to support laptops.

The Overhead Bin Space

Another big perk is the fact that the new overhead bins now offer about 50 percent more space than the ones they’re replacing. That makes it easy for first-class passengers to store their wheeled bags. Passengers flying with economy tickets will also make out nicely when it comes to overhead storage. Bins in economy class have been enlarged by 40 percent.

The Bathrooms

Travelers are sure to be impressed by the new lavatories that have been designed for the CRJ900. The lavatory located at the front of the cabin has been enlarged by about 90 percent. In fact, the new lavatory is so large that it can accommodate passengers who require the use of a wheelchair.

Passengers aren’t the only ones who get to benefit from Bombardier’s upgrades. Flight attendants will also get to benefit from the extra room that the new Atmosphere cabin has to offer. The cabin features a larger entrance zone and galley area near the front of the jet.
