A man was arrested Monday after crashing a stolen car through security barriers and causing flight delays when he drove onto the runway of an airport in France.
According to The Associated Press, the unidentified 31-year-old man was driving the wrong way on a highway near Lyon, France, when police began a high-speed chase that led the suspect to crash into security barriers at Lyon–Bron Airport.
The suspect then drove the stolen car to Lyon–Saint-Exupery Airport and slammed through its security barriers. Flight control operators and airport officials immediately suspended all planes from landing and taking off.
Police chased the suspect’s vehicle as it crashed through two glass doors at the airport’s Terminal 1 and drove onto the runway. The car eventually crashed and the driver ran away on foot before being tackled by the officers chasing him.
While the police continue to investigate the suspect’s motives, the Lyon prosecutors’ office is considering charges of attempted murder in the case.
