SkyTeam Launches New Interactive App Feature

SkyTeam has launched a series of interactive maps on its app to help customers navigate through airports around the world.

The digital maps are aimed at assisting customers from check-in through departure and even baggage collection, providing clear, detailed views of an airport, Delta said in a statement.

MORE Airlines & Airports

“Too often the airport experience can be stressful because customers are rushing through an unfamiliar environment, taking away the enjoyment of traveling,” Perry Cantarutti, SkyTeam’s CEO, said in a statement. “Reaching for our phone to find the way is now second-nature and our interactive airport maps will help ensure a more seamless and relaxed trip through the terminal for our customers wherever and whenever they fly.”

The new airport maps are available on the free SkyTeam app and cover all of the alliance’s 39 main hubs, including co-location terminals and the seven airports with SkyTeam-branded lounges: Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London Heathrow, Sydney, and Vancouver.

The maps offer a variety of benefits, according to Delta.

For instance, they can help travelers with time management by allowing them to clearly understand where they are and where they need to go in terminal buildings, ideally getting passengers to their departure gate without having to rush.

The map’s interactive layout will also help travelers quickly locate airport lounges, a last-minute bite to eat or a store to buy a souvenir to take home.

Delta says the new interactive maps in the SkyTeam app even help eliminate stress.

“Maps give customers the confidence to navigate the airport like a pro for a more positive travel experience, especially important for passengers with connections,” the airline said in a statement.

By using their phones to guide the way through an airport, passengers do not have to rely on airport signs, a feature that can be particularly useful if the signs are in a foreign language.

SkyTeam’s 20 member airlines are also able to use the new map technology and integrate it into their own travel apps.

In addition to launching its interactive airport maps, SkyTeam recently rolled out SkyTeam Rebooking, an industry-leading service recovery tool. Already available at 43 global locations, this innovative technology solution is designed to reduce the inconvenience caused to customers by flight delays, cancellations, and diversions.
