United Airlines has issued a travel waiver for passengers flying into or out of New York City’s three major airports due to severe weather in the area.
The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing on or before Monday when rescheduled in the originally ticketed cabin between the same cities as originally ticketed. The waiver also includes Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York.
According to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com, United was experiencing 175 total flight delays as of noon ET Friday after being hit with over 800 on Thursday.
Approximately 250 of the scheduled flights to and from LaGuardia Airport were canceled or delayed as of Friday afternoon. FlightAware.com also reported notable flight delays and cancellations at several major airports nearby, including Newark Liberty, JFK, Baltimore-Washington, Boston Logan and Philadelphia.

Nonetheless, the figures appear to show an improvement from Thursday, when many major airports along the East Coast were forced to cancel or delay a large chunk of their flights due to severe weather.
Thunderstorms are forecast to impact the New York City area and parts of the Northeast over the next two days before the weather eventually clears out later in the weekend.
As is always the case amid severe weather, travelers are encouraged to check their flight status prior to arriving at the airport.
