Passengers Banned From Carnival Cruises After Broken Elevator Incident

  • Picture of TJS News TJS News

A group of passengers on a Carnival Cruise Line ship became stuck in an elevator and now accuse company officials of banning them after they were freed from their predicament.

According to NewsWeek.com, five guests sailing on the Carnival Inspiration became stuck in the malfunctioning elevator for over an hour while crewmembers worked to free them. One of the passengers trapped in the elevator also reportedly fainted.

While the people stuck in the elevator waited, they claim the Carnival staff members were insensitive about the situation and did not provide the necessary support. In a Facebook post, a passenger named Jacob Burrola said the crew took videos of the stranded travelers and even continued to film after one of them fainted.

The guests claim cruise employees didn’t ask them what happened and inferred it could be their fault. As the crew members used a box wrench to pry the doors open, the elevator slipped down again.

Once the passengers were successfully freed from the elevator, they were banned from all future sailings with Carnival and asked to leave the ship. A letter provided to the guests read in part:

“This decision was based on your actions on the current cruise, which were a violation of the ship rules, interfered with the safety and/or enjoyment of other guests on the ship or caused harm to Carnival.”

A Carnival Cruise Lines spokesperson told Newsweek there are “always two sides to every story. We had a group of guests stuck in one of our elevators last week for approximately 30-40 minutes. Our onboard team was summoned to provide assistance. Unfortunately, because of the extensive damage to the elevator doors and cabling caused by the guests, the work took longer than expected.”
