From the moment my wife Teresa and I stepped foot onto the manicured grounds, owner Mike Amery and innkeeper Louisa Haggerty provided exceptional service and hospitality, instantly putting us both at ease.
Beautifully appointed, elegant suites and luxurious rooms guarantee visitors the ultimate comfort. With impressive features that include a king-sized featherbed, fireplace, heated 2-person whirlpool tub—along with a heated towel rack—separate shower and microfiber robes, the inn was the perfect place for us to unwind.
After settling in, we walked around Washington Crossing Historic Park and imagined what it was like for General George Washington and his 5,400 troops on Christmas Day 1776. Loaded with unique shops and fun restaurants and bars, nearby Main Street and Peddlers Village kept us busy throughout the day. Eventually, we walked over the bridge to Lambertville—“The Antiques Capital of New Jersey”—to take things to another level and search for hidden treasures.
After spending the day exploring the surrounding area, we couldn’t wait to get back to the inn for some pampering and relaxation. The inn offers several different types of couples massages, including Swedish, Deep Tissue and Hot Stone. If that isn’t your thing, sit back, relax with your companion, pour a glass of complimentary champagne (thank you Mike and Louisa) and indulge in the provided chocolate covered strawberries.
There are plenty of dinner options all around Peddlers Village and Main Street, but the inn provides a $50 gift card to Bowman’s Tavern. Located just down the road, we decided on Bowman’s Tavern and it did not disappoint. The relaxing ambiance, live music and delicious food are not to be missed.
In the morning, Chef Anastacio prepared us a fantastic, full English breakfast. The available menu consists of eggs—made in a variety of ways including omelets, scrambled and more—yogurt, fresh fruits and breakfast meats you can add to your entrée, along with multiple juice options. You can mingle with guests in the main dining room, or, if you prefer, you can opt to have breakfast in bed, a unique feature not offered at all B&B’s.
An inn for all seasons—and one that includes a heated outdoor pool that opens at the end of March, along with a terrace that overlooks a pond full of geese, a coup of chickens and deer grazing just 20 yards away—The Inn at Bowman’s Hill is a remarkable and memorable experience.
The incredible service, beautiful atmosphere, both inside and out, and the friendly faces of Mike, Louisa and Anastacio are what makes the inn so remarkable. This peaceful getaway needs to be on your bucket list.
