Update: March 8, 2018 at 10:10 a.m. ET

While Winter Storm Quinn is almost through slamming the east coast with heavy snow and high winds, flight delays and cancellations are still impacting travel.

According to FlightAware.com, over 500 flights were canceled Thursday as airports across the region return to full operation. The facility still feeling the biggest impact was Boston Logan International Airport, which had over 200 flights delayed or canceled.

In total, Wednesday saw 2,787 cancellations due to the nor’easter at major airports in key destinations, including New York City, Newark, Boston, Philadelphia, Hartford and more.

As the Northeast United States continues to deal with the second nor’easter storm of the last week, airlines across the region have been forced to delay or cancel thousands of flights Wednesday and Thursday.

According to FlightAware.com as of 9:40 a.m. ET Wednesday, more than 2,000 flights have been canceled Wednesday and over 200 have been grounded Thursday. Airports suffering the biggest impact thus far include Philadelphia International, Boston Logan International, Newark Liberty International and New York City’s LaGuardia and John F Kennedy International.

MORE Impacting Travel

In terms of airlines dealing with the most flight delays and cancellations, passengers planning to travel to or from impacted regions on American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest or United flights should contact their carrier to check the status of their journeys.

Airlines serving airports in the Northeast have waived change fees for impacted travelers taking to the sky Wednesday and Thursday, with more delays and possible cancellations expected through Friday as facilities dig out from the massive storm.

In addition to the flight cancellations, Amtrak has also announced only a few trains will operate on modified schedules in the Northeast, with many Wednesday services outright canceled.

Most of the trains along the Northeast Regional, Acela Express, Keystone and Empire services have been canceled Wednesday, but Amtrak is still offering Downeaster service in Boston and shuttle service between New Haven, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts.

Rail travelers scheduled to take impacted journeys should contact Amtrak or visit the company’s official website to check the status of their trip. Change fees are also being waived by Amtrak due to the storm.

Local authorities throughout the Northeast are also asking people to avoid driving Wednesday if possible as crews work to clear the snow from roadways. As always, safety is the most important aspect of preparing and handling a massive storm.
