3 Best Michigan Cities to Visit for Beer Lovers

Michigan is a wonderful state. From the Great Lakes to the hospitable people, there’s certainly something for everyone. Adults will relish the fact that Michigan is also known for its beer communities. While the bars and breweries are vast, there are three cities that you must visit for a truly remarkable experience.

Traverse City

The first stop on your beer-sampling tour should be Traverse City. Founded in 1852, this charming city boasts a rich heritage. While it began as a tiny sawmill community, Traverse City continues to grow as enthusiasts flock to the many breweries. Today, there are 19 microbreweries and craft taprooms found throughout this quaint town. You’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy. The beer industry is cherished so fondly that Traverse City has their own week-long festival to celebrate the many breweries. Take a step back in time by visiting Sleder’s Family Tavern. As Traverse City’s oldest restaurant and bar, patrons adore the cozy and historic feel. This tavern really set the stage for the bars to come. You’ll find a vast mahogany bar that’s stocked with a variety of beverages, including wines and domestic beers. For something more modern, consider entering Rare Bird Brewpub. Visitors rave about the restored atmosphere and the regional and house beers. Regardless of what you choose, you’re guaranteed to love the beer scene in Traverse City.

Grand Rapids

For another beer lover’s paradise, head over to Grand Rapids. This town has such a vibrant history, and you can experience it for yourself. With a number of famous breweries, this city is a no brainer. In 2013, this fan favorite city was even dubbed as “Beer City, USA.” Today, you have your choice of 37 breweries to visit and find a new favorite beverage. If you’re looking for unique craft beer, head over to Founders. This pub is considered to be a leader in the craft beer movement. Another local favorite is the Brewery Vivant. Here, visitors can experience farmhouse-style drinks. The inspiration stems from breweries in European cities. It’s certainly an ideal concoction. Whatever you’re feeling, you’ll get it in Grand Rapids.

Kalamazoo

Another city that caters to beer enthusiasts is Kalamazoo. Currently, there are 17 breweries located in this craft beer town. To truly experience the festivities, Kalamazoo offers patrons with their “Give a Craft Beer Trail.” Simply put, visitors can win prizes by visiting all of the participating locations. You’ll receive a special stamp for each stop. So, besides tasting the delightful beers, you can land yourself a fancy bottle opener or shirt. The Beer Trail is an excellent way to connect to the heritage that runs through the breweries throughout the city.

If you love beer, you must visit Michigan for some truly unique craft beers. Between the numerous breweries and pubs, you’ll always taste the love put into the preparation process.
