Air France-KLM Offers Free Flights to Notre Dame Workers

In the aftermath of the devastating fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Air France-KLM is doing what it can to help aid the restoration efforts of the landmark—by providing free flights to anyone who is working with an official restoration partner and flying to Paris to help rebuild the church.

On Monday, Paris and the world faced a devastating blow when fire from restoration work engulfed the Notre Dame Cathedral. About 400 firefighters, a robot, and two drones fought the fire for nearly 12 hours as a crowd of thousands gathered to watch from the banks of the Seine.

During the fire, the church’s spire collapsed, as well as almost the entire roof. Thankfully, the front bell towers, the basic structure, and the priceless artwork and artifacts inside survived. Approximately $1 billion has been pledged already for efforts to rebuild, which President Macron believes will take five years.

For the air industry’s part, Air France-KLM is doing what it knows best in order to help with the reconstruction.

“All Air France and Air France-KLM teams around the world have been deeply affected and saddened since [Monday],” Air France-KLM in a statement this week, reported by USA Today. “Air France will provide free transport for all official partners involved in the reconstruction of Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. Moreover, in the days ahead, the Air France-KLM group will set up a voluntary donations fund for its customers to help finance the reconstruction work.”

Firefighters controlled the blaze with only minutes to spare before the cathedral reached a state of complete destruction, according to authorities.
