Delta Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Being Struck by Lightning

Government officials revealed a Delta Air Lines flight en route to Atlanta was struck by lightning Tuesday afternoon, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Tennessee.

According to WISN.com, Federal Aviation Administration representatives said Delta Air Lines Flight 2050 was flying from General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when the incident occurred.

The flight was served by a McDonnell Douglas MD-90 plane and was carrying 164 passengers when the aircraft was struck by lightning and forced to call for an emergency landing at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.

The aircraft landed safely at the Tennessee airport just after 4 p.m. local time with no passengers reporting injuries, according to Chattanooga airport spokesperson Albert Waterhouse.

“The aircraft will be closely inspected to determine the next steps in getting the passengers to their final destination,” Waterhouse told WISN.com.
