Hilton Announces Many Firsts As Part of Expansion in Mexico

Hilton has inked deals for four new hotels in Mexico that represent several important milestones for the company.

The hotel giant will be introducing its first Canopy by Hilton in the country with the new Canopy by Hilton Cancun La Isla. In addition, Hilton will open its first Hilton Hotels & Resorts property in Monterrey with the Hilton Monterrey Valle Oriente.

The company’s first two Curio Collection by Hilton properties in Mexico City were also announced as part of the flurry of signings. These include Umbral in downtown Mexico City and Hotel Lafontaine in Polanco.

Part of an ambitious program to restore historical buildings in Mexico, the Umbral, Curio Collection by Hilton, will feature 59 guest rooms and a rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking Mexico City. The property is scheduled to open this spring.

The Canopy by Hilton Cancun La Isla, meanwhile, is expected to come online in late 2019. The 175-room property represents the lifestyle brand’s second signing in Latin America. The hotel will feature local design, art, food, drink, social areas, and a rooftop pool. It is to be located in the largest shopping center in Cancun, the Isla Mall.

Also, in late 2019, the Hotel Lafontaine, Curio Collection by Hilton is slated to open in Mexico City’s luxe Polanco neighborhood. The 34-room property is to include a bar, restaurant, and an open-air courtyard. Chic boutiques and world-famous museums are within walking distance.

Finally, late 2021 will bring the opening of the 202-room Hilton Monterrey Valle Oriente, a property that will offer one of the largest ballrooms in the city. Part of a mixed-use project at the base of Cerro de la Silla, the hotel will notably feature direct elevator access to Galerias Valle Oriente and is minutes from El Palacio de Hierro, the largest department store in Latin America.

Hilton currently has a portfolio of nearly 150 hotels and resorts open in the Caribbean and Latin America, including more than 60 hotels in Mexico.

Now in its 100th year, the company continues to pursue additional growth opportunities and has a pipeline of more than 80 hotels throughout the region, including nearly 30 planned projects in Mexico.
