Princess Reports OceanMedallion Activation Milestone

Princess Cruises has announced an activation milestone for its wearable OceanMedallion device. All guests sailing on the 3,100-passenger Caribbean Princess have used OceanMedallion since early September.

According to the line, satisfaction scores indicate guests are taking full advantage of the device.

Its current features include keyless stateroom access, soon to be enhanced with a personalized greeting. MedallionPay facilitates the payment process on board. And, OceanCasino allows guests to wager real money in games such as slots, bingo, roulette and keno from anywhere on board.

OceanCompass helps guests navigate around the ship; while ShipMates lets them locate family members and friends. JourneyView provides a real-time itinerary update, along with a list of onboard events.

Additional features of OceanMedallion include OceanView, which streams original (and free) travel content to guests’ smart devices anywhere on the ship. And, PlayOcean gives guests access to family-friendly games, such as trivia and a shipwide digital scavenger hunt.

Caribbean Princess is also now equipped with Carnival Corporations’ MedallionNet wifi connectivity.

“Having 100 percent of our guests using OceanMedallions on every sailing of Caribbean Princess is a significant milestone that we are celebrating on the path to fleet-wide implementation,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “It is very validating to have our guests tell us that OceanMedallion is turning an already extraordinary experience on Princess Cruises into an even more spectacular vacation, making sailing on Caribbean Princess the ultimate Caribbean cruise vacation.”

OceanMedallion was unveiled by Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald at CES 2017. It was seen as a key factor in two Innovation as Design Awards from Fast Company that year.

Princess currently has three new Royal-class ships on order. The next ship, Sky Princess, is set for delivery in October 2019. Enchanted Princess will debut in 2020. Additionally, two new (LNG) ships are expected for delivery in 2023 and 2025. The 4,300-passenger vessels will be the largest in the Princess fleet.
