Spirit Airlines Adds More Florida Routes

WHY IT RATES: The new flights from Spirit will give travel agents and advisors more options when booking travel between Florida, Baltimore and Washington D.C.—Donald Wood, Breaking News Senior Writer.

Florida’s hometown airline is doubling down on Jacksonville before its first flight from there ever takes off! Beginning February 14, 2019, Spirit will begin daily nonstop service from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

It comes after Spirit announced in September that it would be bringing its ultra-low fares to Jacksonville for the first time with daily nonstop service to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) starting December 20.

The additional service will allow Spirit’s new Jacksonville-area Guests to not only travel to four major bustling metropolitan areas, but will also allow for connections to dozens of other destinations in the Spirit network. The new route to Fort Lauderdale will enable Guests to venture to the beautiful and exotic locales Spirit serves in the Caribbean and Latin America.

The announcement of additional routes comes on a special day, the day the nation observes Veterans Day, a day that means a lot to many in Jacksonville and to the people of Spirit Airlines. With that, the airline’s charitable foundation is committed to serving those who have served our country and therefore has provided a $10,000 donation to K9s For Warriors, a Jacksonville-area based non-profit dedicated to rescuing dogs and specially training them for veterans in need.

“It is so exciting to announce additional service to and from my hometown of Jacksonville before we have even landed our first flight there,” said Laurie Villa, Spirit Airlines’ Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. “At the same time, we want to make it clear that Spirit Airlines is dedicated to giving back to the communities where we work and serve. Today we are doing just that with a donation to a worthy veteran’s organization, K9s For Warriors. We applaud our nation’s veterans for their service and sacrifice and we will continue to support them.”

“We are proud to welcome Spirit Airlines to our home market here in Jacksonville,” said K9s For Warriors Chief Marketing Officer Tahoma Guiry. “We are incredibly grateful for community-oriented partners like Spirit Airlines who recognize the life-changing work taking place at K9s For Warriors. Thanks to their generous support, we are able to rescue more dogs and empower more service members with the invisible wounds of war return to civilian life with dignity and independence.”

Spirit is also taking part in K9 For Warrior’s online social media campaign #K9sPoochSmooch. The campaign is designed to bring attention to the need for these specially trained service animals and promote donation by posting photos kissing your canine companion.
