Take a Look at the 2019 Hurricane Season Travel Predictions

The Atlantic hurricane season is slowly approaching and, according to AccuWeather, it’ll be a normal or slightly above normal year for hurricanes.

From June to November, the Atlantic hurricane season will be in session, which includes areas in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

MORE Impacting Travel

Accuweather forecasters believe 12 to 14 storms will develop during hurricane season, and “of those storms, five to seven are forecast to become hurricanes and two to four are forecast to become major hurricanes.”

“This year, we think that there will be a few less tropical storms and lower numbers in hurricanes, but again, the old saying is ‘it only takes one’,” said Dan Kottlowski, a hurricane expert at AccuWeather.

AccuWeather believes two to four tropical storms or hurricanes will affect the United States this year, though that doesn’t include the tropical storms that could affect the Caribbean, a popular tourist destination.

As travelers begin planning trips during hurricane season to areas in the Caribbean or along the eastern coast of the U.S., remember to take out travel insurance that includes weather disruptions. Or better yet, consider tropical destinations that aren’t typically impacted by hurricanes like the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao), Barbados or Grenada.
