Tire Blew on Delta Air Lines Flight While Landing, One Passenger Injured

Passengers of a Delta Air Lines flight had to evacuate on Wednesday evening after the aircraft’s tire blew upon landing. In a statement by the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft’s left main gear tire blew when it made a hard landing at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Fire trucks along with other emergency vehicles were at the airport tarmac immediately after the incident.

Passengers had to exit the plane via its emergency sides according to the FAA.  After evacuation, a bus was on standby that took the passengers to a terminal. The plane had a total of 190 passengers and one person was injured. However, the condition of the injured individual wasn’t immediately released.

Delta Blew Tire During Rough Landing

A female passenger who doesn’t want to be identified told WSB that the tire popped and another shredded when the aircraft made a rough landing. This caused the plane to skid on the runway.

Bruce Campbell who was a passenger onboard Delta Flight 1437 said that “The Delta team was extremely organized and professional with no panic.” He added that “There are probably 100 ground safety personnel here and 20 vehicles so the response was amazing.”

Delta released a statement following the rough landing incident. According to Delta, “We appreciate the efforts of our flight crew and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport first responders to manage through the safe landing of flight 1437 at our hub this afternoon. Initial reports indicate that one of the aircraft’s tires blew upon landing and components of the landing gear were hot. Customers evacuated via emergency slides and are being moved to the terminal via bus. We apologize to each for this experience—nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew.”

Delta said that the airline is focused on making sure that passengers receive their belongings on the plane. The FAA is currently investigating the incident at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
