After a powerful earthquake struck in the Caribbean near Jamaica and Cuba, a tsunami warning is in effect, according to a report on Accuweather.
The epicenter of the temblor was 78 miles northwest of Lucea, Jamaica, and was at a depth of just 6.2 miles. It was originally rated a 7.3 but was upgraded by the USGS to 7.7.
Tsunami waves as high as 1 meter are possible along some coasts of Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC).
The shaking was felt in Miami, where high-rise buildings were swaying.

Reports that the airport had been evacuated were refuted; however, this was the strongest quake to hit the region since an 8.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in 1946.
