Autistic Child Banned by Airline, Father Questions Airline Masking Policy

A father of a four-year-old autistic child said that Frontier Airlines banned his son for life for not wearing a mask.

The four-year-old child diagnosed with autism, Michael Seklecki Jr. was getting medical treatment in Boston. Two airlines blocked him from from boarding because he doesn’t want to wear a mask. His father, Michael Seklecki plans to sue the Transport Security Administration, Spirit, and Frontier over the masking policies.

Seklecki claims that his son received a medical exemption from wearing a mask. He also claims that he presented the doctor’s note to the airline workers.

In an interview with Laura Ingraham, Seklecki explained that “He’s been banned for life on Frontier Airlines. I was specifically banned as well. Incredible”. He called the treatment “appalling and condescending”. Seklecki added that “It’s totally just mind-blowing to be refused travel for medical care”.

Doctors Notes for the Autistic Child Can’t Override Corporate Policy?

According to Boston 25 News, the autistic child receives treatment every two weeks at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is getting treatment for his gastroenterology and motility disorders.

The parents said that their son can’t tolerate wearing a mask on the flight. Seklecki said that an airline worker dismissed the doctor’s notes. The airline worker said that it doesn’t “override corporate policy at Frontier”.

The family is now asking the Supreme Court for help to get their son the medical attention he needs in Boston.

Mask Mandate Extension

The Biden Administration extended the mask mandate until mid-March next year. With the omicron variant spreading in parts of the US, President Joe Biden announced that people will still have to wear a mask when riding the bus, trains, planes.

The World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also recommend mask-wearing especially in crowded areas. This goes for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.
