Belize Requires COVID Travel Insurance

We know what you’re thinking; you were hoping for smooth sailing by now. When the pandemic hit 2020, no one thought we would still have to worry about this when making travel plans at the beginning of 2022. Yet, here we are. If you plan to travel to Europe, the Caribbean, or the movie theater down the block, you consider COVID restrictions. In the effort of taking the onus off the traveler for insurance, Belize requires their own. The country is implementing a requirement that all travelers purchase COVID travel insurance on arrival.

COIVD Travel Insurance

According to Amy Danise of Forbes, not all travel insurance covers COVID-related issues. However, she laid out the best pandemic insurance in her article. CAT70’s Travel Plan covers up to $500,000 in medical treatment and will cover 100% of the cost of your trip if it needs canceling.

While this seems like an excellent idea for anyone traveling internationally for a vacation, one unavoidable aspect is the additional cost of a plan like this. A plan like this can cost $500 per person.

Belize COVID Travel Insurance

Effective February 15th, all visitors must apply for Belize Travel Health Insurance. This helps protect travelers against incurred medical and non-medical expenses if they test positive for Covid-19 during their stay.

The insurance costs $18 and will cover the traveler for up to $50,000 in medical expenses. It will also cover $2,000 in lodging, or $300 a day. It covers emergency assistance services such as air evacuation and emergency expenses related to pre-existing conditions. Furthermore, it covers trip cancellations and costs incurred by Covid-19 positive travelers for extended stays.

This program is another way Belize goes above and beyond to make visitors feel safe in their travels. Belize instituted the Gold Standard program, allowing visitors to know safely the best places to visit.
