Canada Will Launch a Standardized COVID19 Vaccine Passport

Canada is going to launch a standardized COVID19 vaccine passport for citizens. On Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the digital document will contain a QR code. The COVID19 vaccine passport can be scanned at airports, train stations, and other entry points.

Standardized COVID19 Vaccine Passport

Trudeau said that “As Canadians look to start traveling again, there will be a standardized proof-of-vaccination certificate”. Prime Minister Trudeau is also looking to encourage unvaccinated Canadians to get the COVID19 vaccine. He said that “We can end this pandemic and get back to the things we love”.

Canada’s standardized COVID19 vaccine passport will include Canada’s identifying mark and will meet international health card standards. The vaccine passport will include the holder’s name, date of birth, and COVID19 vaccine history. The vaccine passport history includes the type of vaccine and the date of vaccination.

According to the latest data, more than 73% of Canadians completed their vaccine doses. Canadians without the proof-of-vaccination certificate will be prohibited to board both domestic and international planes starting November 30.

Currently, Canadians can travel with just a picture or a copy of a vaccine certificate. However, not all vaccine certificates have a QR code.

Trudeau also announced that the Canadian government will be paying for the standardized COVID19 vaccine passport.

In addition to this, Trudeau mentioned that there are provinces that already used the standardized proof of vaccination certificate. This includes Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland, Labrador, and all the northern provinces.

According to Trudeau, “You are now able to show proof of vaccination immediately in all of those provinces”.

US and Canada Opening Its Borders

Canada announced that it is going to soon welcome vaccinated travelers. Earlier this month, the US also said that they will start accepting vaccinated Canadian travelers starting November 8. This includes reopening of US land borders in both Canada and Mexico.

According to Canadian officials, they are already talking with other nations popular among Canadian travelers about the new proof of vaccination certificate.

Trudeau said that “Many (countries) have said they want to see a digital…verifiable proof of vaccination, which is what we’re delivering”.
