Carnival Panorama Returned with a COVID Positive Case?

There’s a report of another Carnival Cruise ship returning with COVID positive cases. Carnival Panorama returned to Long Beach, California after a seven-day cruise in Mexico. According to a guest who sent a message to Cruise Law News, several COVID cases happened aboard the ship.

In the letter, the passenger said that “The Carnival Panorama just returned to Port of Long Beach, there were multiple COVID cases onboard”. The passenger also said that there were passengers “being disembarked on some ports of call accompanied by medical personnel”.

The Carnival cruise ship visited Mexican ports including Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta. This was the first cruise of Carnival Panorama since the industry suspended cruises last year due to the pandemic. The Carnival Panorama had its debut sailing in December 2019.

Carnival Panorama Operated at 75% Capacity

The Carnival Panorama can accommodate around 4,000 passengers. It operated at a 75% capacity and claimed to have at least 95% of passengers vaccinated.

Carnival recently announced their “HAVE FUN. BE SAFE. COVID 19 GUEST PROTOCOLS”. The cruise line requires proof of vaccination for passengers. Also, passengers will need to show a negative COVID19 test three days before embarkation regardless of vaccination status. For unvaccinated passengers, they will need to have an additional test before embarkation and a third test 24 hours into the trip. There is also the new mask guideline that requires guests to wear masks indoors.

Sloppy Protocols?

Though there is no confirmation on the part of Carnival yet, this wouldn’t be the first time someone tested positive on a Carnival ship. In a tweet, a passenger claims to have tested positive after getting off the Carnival Mardi Gras.

Carnival also had a passenger who died of COVID19 related complications. After the passenger died, Carnival announced that “it was highly unlikely Ms. Tackett contracted the coronavirus aboard the ship”.

A Facebook video posted on Carnival Senior Cruise Director John Heald’s page shows the Carnival Panorama with a crowd disregarding social distancing and other safety protocols. Some individuals on the video weren’t wearing masks.
