Greece Announced a Free COVID Self-Test for Minors

The Greek Aviation Authority announced that medical authorities will give a free COVID self-test for minors. The test will be available for children between 5 to 11 years old. Also, the test must be done at least 24 hours before departure.

For passengers 12 years old and up entering Greece, they will still have to present a negative COVID19 test. Plus, passengers will also have to show either proof of recovery from COVID19 or proof of vaccination. Also, passengers should’ve completed their vaccination 14 days before their trip.

Greece honors the EU Digital COVID19 Certificate. This can help travelers skip COVID19 testing and quarantine. The EU Digital COVID19 Certificate was introduced to travelers to make it easier to move within the region. However, the certificate is only valid for 180 days from the date it has been issued.

Unvaccinated travelers will need to present a negative COVID19 test done within 48 hours before the flight.

Greece Welcomes US Travelers

The free COVID self-test can be a great way to attract adults who travel with children. Despite the EU’s warning to member states that they should tighten their restrictions on US travelers, Greece welcomed US travelers with open arms.

Vassilis Kikilias, Greece Minister of Tourism said that the US is an important market for the country’s economy. Kikilias said that “Visitors and tourism professionals in the United States of America, and, of course, Greeks abroad, have shown and continue to show their love for Greece and their trust in the Greek tourism product”.

EU States Tightened Rules on US Travelers

France, Spain, Denmark, Italy, and Norway decided to tighten their restrictions on US travelers. The reason for the added restrictions is the EU’s decision to remove the US from its safe travel list.

However, the decision to restrict US travelers will still depend on each country. In the end, it’s a confusing time to travel to Europe. For instance, France only welcomes vaccinated US travelers. On the other hand, Italy added self-isolation requirements for unvaccinated travelers.
