MGM Resorts Brings Back Parking Fees in June

  • Picture of John Michael Jayme John Michael Jayme

Pandemic made Las Vegas and its casinos empty. But in recent months, things are changing for the better. More people are traveling to Las Vegas as more people have been vaccinated. However, it’s time to say goodbye to a pandemic travel perk. MGM Resorts announced that it is starting to charge parking fees in June.

MGM Resorts operates the Bellagio, New York-New York, The Mirage, as well as other properties in the Las Vegas Strip. Las Vegas ended its free parking policy in 2016 when MGM Resorts announced that it is starting to charge parking fees.

Last year, MGM and Caesars reverted to offering free parking as they try to attract people to visit Las Vegas. This was the same time when Las Vegas reopened after closing for two months. When MGM Resorts removed their parking fees, hotels including Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, Wynn, and Encore already took out their parking fees before the pandemic to stand out against the competition.

The free parking policy was offered to self-parking. Valet parking, on the other hand, has not been offered in Las Vegas hotels since casinos reopened. However, Valet parking is expected to return by June 1.

Top Destination During Memorial Weekend

According to AAA, Las Vegas and Orlando are the top destinations for road trips and vacation bookings during Memorial Day Weekend. MGM spokesman Brian Ahern said in a statement that “Service and business needs are changing rapidly as Las Vegas continues its recovery”. He added that “We’re focused on expanding our amenities and workforce to accommodate increasing numbers of guests as demand grows and visitation continues rising”.

Caesars Entertainment Hotels including Caesars Palace, Flamingo Las Vegas, and Paris Las Vegas brought back self-parking fees in October. However, parking remained free for those who reside in Nevada. Guests should expect to pay $15 to $18 a day if they are self-parking at MGM. All the other hotels charge from $12 to $15 per day. The daily maximum rate will be implemented after four hours. If you want to go for valet parking, then you’ll pay from $18 to $35 per day.
