These Big Trends Are Reshaping the Travel Industry

The travel industry is constantly changing and travel companies and destinations are changing to match it. As technological innovations continue to improve, so do the amenities of travel. Here are a few big trends that are changing how we travel.

Personalized Experiences

Companies collect a lot of data on their customers and they are using that to better target and fulfill the expectations of their customers. Tour companies have more personalized offerings at each stop. Some are even going as far as to let people choose which areas they want to spend more or less money, such as lodging, restaurants, and premium experiences or shows. Destinations offer experiences catered to different types of people that frequently visit. Figuring out these personalizations allows the travel industry to close the gap and grab customers who would otherwise plan their own travel.

Mobile Bookings

Almost everyone has a cell phone these days, which makes mobile a very important area to target. Google also places a huge emphasis on making sure websites are mobile friendly, prompting updates in web design and optimization. In terms of importance, mobile bookings can make or break a business. Mobile bookings will make up half of all travel sales by next year and that number is just going to keep going up. As hotels, airlines, and other travel related companies continue to develop and create their apps, customers are able to find better deals in a quicker fashion and consolidate all their travel plans much quicker. The convenience of mobile booking is huge as well.

Virtual Experiences

With COVID-19 drastically impacting the travel industry, many destinations have turned to virtual experiences to supplement their normal revenue and to entice people to visit once restrictions have lifted. Virtual tourists can jump on a local guided tour, become immersed in virtual reality experiences, or stroll through famous museums. You can even virtually open someone else’s window and see what they see every day for a quick trip to a new location. While some of the more premium experiences may cost money, you can find plenty that are cheap or free.

While some travel trends come and go quickly, these ones are not only here to stay, they are going to play a huge part of the travel industry going forward. As technology increases and travel experiences target more and more people, expect to see even more options than ever before.
