American Airlines Adding and Expanding Winter Service

Travelers may be focused on hitting the road this summer, but American Airlines is already thinking about the winter with the addition of new and expanded service to warm-weather destinations.

On December 18, American will launch daily service between Phoenix and Chihuahua, Mexico, complementing existing daily service from Dallas-Fort Worth. Tuesday and Saturday service from Dallas to Huatulco and Acapulco begins December 21, adding two new routes to the airline’s footprint in Mexico.

American is also adding five new routes to the Caribbean, a new route to South America and increased service to Central America. On December 18, service between New York and Georgetown, Guyana will debut, as well as expanded service to Costa Rica from Dallas. In addition, daily flights to San Jose and Liberia starts that day.

“As we looked at our Latin America and Caribbean network, we saw some unique opportunities to grow, providing more service to the places our customers value most,” American vice president Vasu Raja said. “We know that customers who travel for business during the week are seeking Caribbean destinations on the weekends, and we’re looking forward to providing new opportunities for that this winter.”

American’s growth in the region continues December 21, when a series of new Saturday-only flights kick off. The routes include St. Thomas to Dallas and Chicago O’Hare; St. Lucia to Chicago; Bermuda to New York City; and Grenada to Charlotte, North Carolina.

In terms of additional domestic flights, new daily service is planned between Miami and Oklahoma City; Northwest Arkansas; and Columbia, South Carolina starting December 18.

American will also connect Dallas and St. George, Utah starting September 26; Philadelphia and Eagle/Vail, Colorado on December 21; New York and Richmond, Virginia on November 21; and more.
