American Airlines Rolling Out Free Apple Music Streaming

Music-loving travelers will be happy to learn that American Airlines will be providing passengers with free Apple Music streaming on flights.

No longer will travelers have to download music before a flight to listen offline or pay for pricey in-flight internet service to stream their favorite music. Starting on February 1st, Apple Music subscribers can stream more than 50 million songs and music videos for free on American flights in the U.S.

American Airlines will even have curated playlists on Apple Music for your listening pleasure.

For passengers who don’t have Apple Music, they can sign up for a free three-month trial during their flight. Plans range from $4.99 to $14.99 per month if they wish to continue the service after the three-month trial.

“For most travelers, having music to listen to on the plane is just as important as anything they pack in their suitcases,” Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music, said in a statement. “With the addition of Apple Music on American flights, we are excited that customers can now enjoy their music in even more places.”

Take note that the free Apple Music streaming option will only be available on 455 of American’s 800 domestic aircrafts. Those 455 aircrafts are equipped with the new high-speed Viasat internet service, which has the bandwidth to allow for streaming music, movies and TV shows.

This free perk by American Airlines is the result of an exclusive year-long partnership with Apple and a long-term plan to improve in-flight entertainment.
