The Federal Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating an incident involving a male flight attendant from American Airlines for his possible connection to a hidden camera discovered in an aircraft lavatory.
According to the Massachusetts state police, the “potential criminal act” happened on September 2 onboard American Flight 1441 which landed at Boston Logan International Airport from Charlotte, NC. Authorities told WSOC that it involved a “juvenile, a flight attendant, and a cell phone.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking at the case since crimes that occurred mid-flight are under federal jurisdiction.
Boston 25 spoke with a passenger on board the American Airlines flight who saw the incident. According to the passenger, a teenage girl tried to use the bathroom in the first-class section of the plane.
However, a male flight attendant stopped her. The passenger recalled that “When she was about to go the bathroom he stopped her and said, ‘Hey hold on just a second, we’re about to start collecting trash so I am going to wash my hands.’” After the flight attendant left the lavatory, the teenage girl then used the bathroom.
The passenger then saw the teenage girl’s mother who then went to the bathroom to prevent others from going in. He said, “The mom stopped that passenger from going to the bathroom and said ‘Wait, don’t go in there.'” That’s when the mother told the other passenger that there was a camera inside the lavatory.
After landing, law enforcement entered the plane and took the male flight attendant. He said, “Police came on, and then staff from the airline came on and 3 or 4 different people checked the bathroom.” The source added, “After 3 or 4 different people checked the bathroom, they took the male flight attendant off, and that’s when they let us off.”
American Airlines issued a statement regarding the incident. In their statement, “We take this matter very seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation, as safety and security are our highest priorities.”
