Delta Air Lines Expanding Service to Caribbean and Mexico

Delta Air Lines is looking to the future with the announcement of new and expanded service in late 2019 and early 2020.

Starting December 21, Delta will expand its Saturday-only service to winter seasonal daily flights between its Detroit Metropolitan Airport and two Caribbean destinations, including Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republic.

The Caribbean routes will operate with the 180-passenger Boeing 737 planes, which feature 20 seats in First Class, 21 Comfort + seats and 139 Main Cabin seats. Ticket sales for both routes open on May 11.

“We are thrilled to be able to connect our customers in Detroit with the Dominican Republic and Jamaica,” Delta director Rodrigo Bertola said in a statement. “Delta wants to capitalize on the surging demand to this important market and become the No. 1 choice for Midwestern travelers when flying to Caribbean hotspots.”

The airline will also add a third daily seasonal flight from New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Cancun International Airport in Mexico from January through March, effective January 6, 2020.

“This additional seasonal daily flight meets an important rising demand for customers wishing to experience one of Mexico’s iconic destinations: Cancun,” Delta general manager Jose Zapata said. “Mexico is fundamental to our Latin American growth strategy and we are proud to work side-by-side with Aeromexico, our JCA partner, to offer each of our customers industry-leading operational reliability, innovative onboard products and thoughtful service.”
