Great Lakes Airlines Halts Flight Operations

Great Lakes Airlines announced Monday it has suspended all commercial flight operations.

According to KSFY.com, the Wyoming-based airline consists of 28 Beechcraft 1900D and six Embraer 120 Brasilia airplanes but said a national pilot shortage has resulted in the inability for the carrier to continue operations.

The airline had served several key destinations, including Cheyenne, Wyoming; Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, California; Phoenix, Arizona; and more. Great Lakes Airlines was the 16th-largest air carrier at Denver International Airport last year.

The carrier operated 17,884 flights at the Denver airport last year.

“At midnight tonight, Monday, March 26, Great Lakes will suspend scheduled flight operations as an air carrier,” the airline said in a statement. “Although we are ceasing flight operations, it is important to note that the company has not entered bankruptcy and will continue to operate certain segments of the business. We will continue to support the ADI flights operating between Denver, Pierre, and Watertown.”

While Great Lakes Airlines did not file for bankruptcy, it revealed it would continue to provide support services to Aerodynamics Inc. charter flights between Denver and two cities in South Dakota, Pierre, and Watertown.
