JetBlue Paying for Firefighters to Attend Fallen Hero’s Funeral

JetBlue is paying tribute to a fallen hero by allowing firefighters travelers flying to California to pay respects to make the journey free of charge.

According to KTLA.com, Long Beach fire Captain Dave Rosa, 45, was fatally shot in the line of duty Monday and will be laid to rest at 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday, July 3, in the arena of the Long Beach Convention Center.

Rosa was a 17-year veteran who leaves behind a wife and two children.

The Long Beach Firefighters Association said JetBlue offered to pay for the flights of any firefighters wishing to attend Rosa’s service. Interested firefighters should call JetBlue at 800-538-2583 to reserve complimentary airfare.

To be eligible, flight dates must fall between June 30 and July 6 and firefighters must ask for fallen officer booking and mention Rosa by name when talking to JetBlue representatives. The airline said only two members of any one department are allowed to fly for free.

Rosa was allegedly murdered by a 77-year-old man named Thomas Man Kim after the suspect set off an explosive device with the intention of killing an upstairs neighbor.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Kim faces one count of murder, one count of attempted murder of a firefighter, two counts of attempted murder and one count each of arson of an inhabited structure and explosion with intent to murder.
