Southwest Puts Fall Flights on Sale From $49 Through August 13

Southwest Airlines has launched another nationwide sale on fall flights, this time offering discounted fares as low as $49 one-way and $98 roundtrip during a month-long window.

The low-cost carrier’s latest sale runs now through August 13 at 11:59 p.m. CT and is valid for continental U.S. travel from August 11 through December 17, 2020; San Juan, Puerto Rico travel between August 18 and December 3, 2020, and international travel from August 18 through December 9, 2020.

The discounted seats require a 14-day advance purchase and blackout dates do apply around the Thanksgiving holiday. Continental U.S. travel is blacked out November 25 and 28-30, 2020 while sale fares to San Juan, Puerto Rico and international destinations are blacked out November 20-22, 2020. Finally, travel from San Juan, Puerto Rico and international destinations is blacked out November 27-30, 2020.

Nonetheless, travelers can find fares from under $100 roundtrip on a plethora of routes, including Atlanta-Indianapolis/Nashville, Baltimore-Boston/Detroit, Los Angeles-Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale-Orlando/Tampa and Dallas-Austin/Houston, among others.

Southwest is also one of a handful of airlines blocking middle seats to combat the spread of COVID-19 this summer. The carrier will continue to limit capacity on its flights to allow for social distancing at least through September 30. Like the rest of the industry, Southwest has also stepped up cleaning and hygiene protocols and is requiring passengers to wear face-coverings throughout their journey.
