A business class British Airways (BA) passenger studying the menu on a flight from London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) was surprised to find that one of the offerings could potentially contain a rather alarming ingredient: bullet fragments.
The dish in question, listed as “Home Counties venison stew with rosemary dumplings, roasted chestnuts and wilted kale,” carried an advisory written next to it, as spotted by Dr. Michael Brown, reports The Sun. Dr. Brown tweeted an image of the menu item, along with the advisory, which read, “Even though greatest care has been taken, due to the nature of the product there is a very small risk of bullet fragments that could be found in the meal.”
Commenting on the dish, Dr. Brown was quoted as saying that he “didn’t order it but found this to be very strange. The two flight attendants I spoke with had never seen or noticed this before but got a good laugh out of it.”
“One joked with me that this warning could be so all the Americans on board couldn’t sue them. I told him he could well be right,” he added.
Not surprisingly, Dr. Brown’s post garnered comments and gags from fellow Twitter users. “Looks like British Airways will go the extra mile to make their American customers feel at home,” said one while another quipped, “Hey it’s just added iron.”
The carrier’s spokesperson was quoted as saying that, “These warnings are there as a precaution, and are common practice. We source the best British ingredients for our in-flight menu and this is no exception.”
