Amtrak Offering Student Discounts on Midwest Travel

To help college students get home to see family or head back to school for summer classes, Amtrak is offering a 15-percent discount for those traveling in the Midwest.

Students between 13-25 years old who provide a valid student ID will be eligible for the discount on Value or Flexible Fare when they book the journey at least three days in advance through the Amtrak website.

The Midwest Student Discount is valid on most services in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin, including the Lincoln Service, Wolverine Service, Hiawatha Service and more. The savings are also valid on most Amtrak Thruway Buses associated with these trains.

Students will have the chance to travel with modern amenities such as spacious seating, outlets to keep electronics charged and free Wi-Fi. In addition, Amtrak lets passengers bring up to 150 pounds of carry-on luggage at no extra charge.

The Amtrak Midwest trains are primarily powered by new, low-emission locomotives with Midwest-made diesel engines. Last year, the locomotives carried more than three million passengers, an increase of more than four percent from the previous year.

For travelers in areas served by Amtrak’s Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited trains, the planned journeys will include hand-crafted meals that can be delivered to the rooms of passengers or eaten in a private cafe or lounge car starting on June 1.
