Amtrak Offers National 3-Day Sale for College Students

WHY IT RATES: Travel agents working for clients with children in college will be happy to learn about the discounted Amtrak fares during the current sale .—Donald Wood, Breaking News Senior Writer.

With school back in session at colleges across the country, customers who are between 17-24 years of age and traveling with a valid student ID can save 30 percent off their Amtrak travel on most trains throughout the country.

The sale is valid for travel from October 1 to January 31, 2019, with no blackout dates. The sale runs exclusively on Amtrak.com for booking between September 11 and September 13, using the promo code “V112.”

Considered by students as the smarter way to travel, visiting family and friends, heading to the big game or planning a quick getaway has never been easier.

Students can sit in comfort, instead of traffic, by avoiding the additional costs of driving, parking, tolls and gas. They can also enjoy large spacious seats with electrical outlets to charge devices, no middle seats, the freedom to move around, Wi-Fi on most train services and a generous baggage policy.

Some of the cities where customers can experience a quick day trip, weekend getaway or a longer trip include:

—Austin – Dallas $20.30

—Los Angeles – Oakland $41.30*

—Seattle – Portland $24.50

—Boston – New York $55.30

—Ann Arbor – Chicago $26.60

—Washington – Charlotte $61.60

—Tuscaloosa – New Orleans $32.20

—Richmond, VA – Miami $101.50

*Fares as low as this rate, depending on which train you take.

Space is limited, and prices are not available on all trains at all times. Reservations must be made within the valid booking dates between September 11 and September 13. Other restrictions apply.
