Amtrak Promotes Acela Express Saver Fares

WHY IT RATES: Travel agents working with clients who appreciate rail travel should be selling them on new discounts on advanced purchases.—Donald Wood, Breaking News Senior Writer.

Your summer trip just got a promotion with Amtrak, which is offering 25 percent off travel on the Acela Express when booking 21 days in advance of a departure.

Amtrak is expanding its Saver Fare prices to more departures on Acela trains, allowing customers to book their summer day trips, weekend getaways and longer vacations anywhere between Boston and Washington D.C. with these low fares, no discount code is required.

Acela trains allow customers to sit in luxury and comfort – not traffic – and with fewer stops around the route, customers can travel from downtown-to-downtown faster to the most popular cities in the Northeast, whether it’s to catch a baseball game, explore a new city, or experience a summer music festival.

Some of the special prices available, in either direction, during the promotion include:

Pairing Cities Price Pairing Cities Price
New York City – Philadelphia $79 Philadelphia – Washington, D.C $92
Boston – New Haven $84 Baltimore – New York City $121
New York City – Wilmington $85 Newark – Washington, D.C. $126
New York City – Providence $86 Washington, D.C. – New York City $126
Boston – New York City $89 Boston – Philadelphia $128

Amtrak has upgraded its free Wi-Fi on Northeast Corridor trains and has recently refreshed its train interiors. Customers also benefit from the freedom to use phones and electronic devices at all times (no “airplane mode”), a generous baggage policy, the ability to travel with small pets on many trains, large spacious seats with ample leg room, and no middle seat.

Prices are available exclusively for one-way Acela Business Class fares and upgrades to First Class are not permitted. Acela Express trains offer a child discount on weekends and holidays only. Space is limited as prices are not available on all trains or at all times.

Once purchased, tickets are not refundable. Exchanges are permitted within the ticket validity period and a 25-percent cancellation fee applies. The offer cannot be combined with any other discount. Others restrictions may apply.

For more information, reach out to your local travel agent.
