The train operated by Germany’s Deutsche Bahn was forced to stop near Frankfurt after the man picked up a fire extinguisher off the wall and smashed the glass door separating the cab from the passenger compartment.
As the conductor sat in shock behind the controls, the man told the driver to slow the high-speed train down to save the other passengers. When the train came to a stop, police boarded and arrested the man.
The suspect faces an investigation into dangerous interference in rail traffic and other possible charges.
No passengers were injured during the incident, but the train was taken out of service as a result of the damage caused by the fire extinguisher.
