Lyft Launches a Ditch Your Car Challenge

Lyft is offering people across the United States as much as $500 to leave their cars home as part of a new Ditch Your Car Challenge.

The new program offers passengers transportation credit to give up their cars for 30 days from October 8 through November 6. Those who participate in the challenge will have access to Lyft Shared (in markets where it’s available), Zipcar, local transit and bike partners in more than 35 cities nationwide, the company said in a statement.

“Ridesharing has already challenged the way Americans see car ownership, with 250,000 passengers in 2017 giving up their cars because of Lyft,” the company said. “Now, it’s time to take an even bolder step toward creating a better future for our cities, our planet and future generations.

Lyft said that since day one, it has had a vision that cities should be built around people, not cars or parking lots.

Achieving that vision includes people having the freedom to choose from multiple, cost-effective and sustainable options to get where you’re going,” according to the company’s statement.

“We are on the brink of a massive shift in personal transportation, moving away from ownership and into transportation as a service. Ditch Your Car is an extension of the mission we’ve been committed to for over a decade,” said Co-Founder and President, John Zimmer.

The program starts September 26 over 35 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto. Participants will be randomly selected to participate in select cities.

Those who wish to participate can sign up here: ditchwithlyft.com/. Those who are chosen for the challenge, you’ll receive an email with details for the program including transportation credits.

Transportation credits will include Lyft Shared (in available markets), Zipcar, as well as a local transit and bike share partner to get around your city for one month.

The challenge starts October 8 and ends November 6.
