One of them will involve rehabilitating the Punta Sur Lighthouse, which has not been maintained for years, said Rosa Elena Rios Fernandez, a coordinator for the maritime terminal. That project is expected to cost about 238,000 pesos (about $12, 677.)
In addition, another rehabilitation effort has already started on the ferry terminal area. That work, which includes upgrading a retaining wall, will cost about 848,000 pesos, or about $45,000.
Additional work at the Isla Mujeres maritime passenger terminal will include changing lights and upgrading an old concrete pier. The ultimate goal of the effort is to prepare the pier to accommodate larger vessels, Rios Fernandez said.
Work is slated to be complete by the first half of November.
