Silversea Announces Tastes of Distinction Wine Cruises

Silversea has debuted a new series of wine cruises, called Tastes of Distinction. The itineraries center around wine-related destinations and will feature special hosts, including the line’s Wine Ambassador, Lawrence d’Almeida.

Silversea is already known for its selection of some 160 complimentary wines from 70 labels. The themed voyages will offer a range of curated wines, as well as onboard lectures, tastings, and wine-themed excursions.

“From a rare Italian wine that is virtually unheard of to the very finest bottles that no luxury establishment can be without, our range of wines, both complimentary and premium, is tailored to provide our guests with an insight into the world’s best wines,” says Birgit Vadlau, Silversea’s food and beverage director. “Our offering of fine wines is unmatched on any other all-inclusive program at sea. Our wine voyages exemplify the exceptional range of experiences that guests can enjoy through Silversea and incorporate the finest tastes of the visited destinations.”

Highlights of the new wine-themed departures include Silver Whisper’s October 18, 2018 cruise from Lisbon to Fort Lauderdale. The cruise partners with Comitato Grandi Cru d’Italia and the American Fine Wine Competition. Guests will savor both “old” and “new” world wines, including 33 Italian varieties and 19 American wines. Invited guests include vintners, journalists, wine magazine publishers and co-founders of the American Fine Wine Competition (AFWC), Monty and Sara Preiser. The Preisers will serve as hosts and instructors, and present AFWC’s Double Gold Medal-winning wines from wineries named as “Winery of the Year.”

Other notable guests include ASPI sommelier association members Giuseppe Vaccarini and Gennaro Buono. Recognized as the world’s best and Italy’s best sommeliers, respectively, they will each join one cruise segment. Vaccarini will join guests on shore excursions, while Buono will host an accredited propaedeutic sommelier course.

Four additional wine voyages are scheduled for 2019. They include departures from Auckland aboard Silver Muse; Sydney aboard Silver Whisper; Lisbon aboard Silver Cloud and London aboard Silver Whisper.
