Bali’s New Five Star Rainforest Retreat

Hospitality Designs Hall of Fame architect Bill Bensley has created a new luxury tented retreat in Bali’s rainforest.

The highly anticipated Capella Ubud, slated to open July 18, was inspired by early European settlers from the 1800s and has been designed to exist in harmony with the surrounding nature.

The entire retreat, 22 one-bedroom accommodations and one two-bedroom lodge, is constructed within the trees and appears hidden from afar. And to increase the drool factor even more, each of the accommodations has its own private salt water pool.

There will also be a handful of mouthwatering dining options at the new property, all of which are inspired by the spirit of discovery, offering an unexpected twist on traditional flavors influenced by the jungle setting and local heritage.

At Mads’ Lounge, the focus will be seasonal, sustainably-farmed ingredients, while Api Jiwa will feature intimate, authentic Asian barbecue. In addition, comforting camp snacks will be served at Camp Fire, where there will also be live storytelling and nostalgic films.

Mortar & Pestle Bar meanwhile, will serve light and refreshing snacks and cocktails poolside. The cocktail menu is to be curated to reflect the harmony of Mother Nature’s ingredients and sounds. Drinks will be hand crafted using traditional methods.

And what would a trip to a tropical paradise be without plenty of pampering spa time?

Auriga, the property’s wellness offering, was created to be an oasis for guests to indulge in bespoke treatments and rejuvenate among nature. The spa includes three luxurious tents and will feature experiences drawn from Bali’s rich wellness tradition and will use signature techniques and organic products exclusively blended for Capella Ubud, Bali, according to the resort’s website.

Wellness classes are also available ranging from yoga to Pilates TRX and barre. In addition there’s a fully equipped gymnasium.

If all of that’s not enough, there are adventure programs available for guests from sunrise until sunset.

Those who are feeling really ambitious can also explore beyond the deluxe camp. Bali after all, is home of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Subak Irrigation System, and is steeped in history dating back to the days of European settlers. Ubud itself is renowned for its rich arts, crafts and cultural heritage.

There are temples to explore, rituals and ceremonies to experience and farmer’s markets and plantations waiting to be discovered.
