On Friday at 9:45 p.m., Las Vegas gamblers and tourists were in for a scary surprise when an armed man tried to rob Bellagio Hotel and Casino and then engaged in a gunfight with police officers when trying to escape.
The man approached the caged poker area at the hotel and demanded money. When his request was refused, he fled and tried to steal a vehicle that had just pulled into the valet lot.
He was immediately surrounded by four police officers, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Captain Nichole Splinter.
Splinter said the man fired a gun at the officers, which struck one of the officers in his bullet-proof vest. A second officer fired back and hit the suspect.
The man is currently in critical condition at the hospital, while the officer who was shot, was treated and released.
The suspect’s robbery plan wasn’t as intricate as those displayed in the film Oceans Eleven, and yet many can’t help but link his brazen behavior to the film’s main characters who plan a heist at multiple Vegas casinos, including Bellagio Hotel and Casino.
