Six Senses Douro Valley Announces Crafted Experiences

WHY IT RATES: Six Senses Douro Valley is offering a diverse range of crafted experiences each week including guided forest walks, organic garden tours and painting tiles.—Mia Taylor, TravelPulse Senior Writer.

When checking in at Six Senses Douro Valley, there is now such an enticing list of experiences on offer that the hardest part may actually be checking out.

Specially appointed Guest Experience Makers (GEMs) look after every guest during their stay. Overseeing operations is Aqua, the resort’s rescue dog, who has a self-appointed job of escorting people as they hike or wander through the surrounding forest and vineyards.

MORE Hotel & Resort

In line with the Six Senses brand values that favor crafted experiences – sometimes unusual, often unexpected – the resort is proud of the quality and diversity of experiences featured in its weekly activities calendars.

Ahstanga, pranayama, hatha, aerial yoga and Pilates are a complimentary treat available every morning. Guided forest or vineyard walks, organic garden tours and downhill mountain biking have all proven popular with nature lovers.

There are more radical and energetic activities for the young, young-at-heart or bold, such as water skiing, circuit training and tree climbing. Although it may have been many decades since a guest last climbed a tree, it’s a childhood experience that most people love to rediscover.

Sustainability values flow through all guest activities. Earth Lab workshops teach ancient techniques of food preservation, such as pickling, dehydrating and how to make delicious yogurts in non-electrical equipment.

How about learning about how to produce beauty products based on natural ingredients such as fruits, salt or olive oil? Look no further than the Alchemy Bar for beauty without parabens or petrochemicals.

Painting tiles has been a traditional Portuguese form of architectural embellishment for centuries. At Six Senses Douro Valley, the resident artist teaches this ancient technique in colorful workshops that can also incorporate the nature that grows in abundance all around using flower and leaf stencils.

And, last but not least, younger guests learn and explore through Grow With Six Senses, which includes children’s activities focused on wellness and sustainability, and the simple but often lost pleasure of playing outdoors.

Who wouldn’t love to join a treasure hunt in the resort’s beautiful gardens and surrounding forest covered with century-old trees, or a face painting session that brightens everyone’s day?

In order to celebrate these wonderful experiences, the resort has created a special package offering a selection of activities, in a private session, for guests who stay a minimum of three nights in Quinta Deluxe accommodations or any superior category.

Included activities include Yogurts, Pickles and Tea workshops in the Earth Lab, Alchemy Bar at Six Senses Spa Douro Valley or Fermented Beverages in the Quinta Lounge.

The Crafted Experiences package for a couple starts at EUR 348 per room, per night in Quinta Deluxe accommodations and includes the resort’s sumptuous buffet breakfast.

The offer is based on a minimum three-night stay. Valid from November 20, 2018 through March 15, 2019.
